Frequently asked questions

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?2019-07-15T10:52:10+00:00

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is an evidence based psychotherapy that is based on the theory that thoughts, feelings, what you do and how our body feels are all connected. If you change one of these we can alter the others. When people feel worried or distressed they often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT works by helping you notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so you can feel better. CBT has lots of strategies that can help you in the here and now.

What is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy?2019-07-15T10:50:46+00:00

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  EMDR is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.  EMDR used the brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health.  If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering.  Once the block is removed, healing resumes.

What is the CAMHS Private2019-07-15T10:50:34+00:00

The CAMHS Private (Child and adolescent Mental Health Service) has been set up to provide fast access to therapy for children and adolescents. Therapy sessions are usually weekly so it is an intensive and effective treatment option. Therapists working at the CAMHS Private are independent practitioners who are highly qualified and with many years of experience working in CAMHS.  We offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and trauma therapy (EMDR therapy). CAMHS Private has a large network of professionals so if you need any mental health service not listed here, contact us and we will do our best to facilitate it for you.

Payment and Fees2019-07-15T10:50:23+00:00

Fees vary depending on the type of therapy you are attending for.  You can contact us on 083-3107279 and they will be happy to advise you of the relevant fee. Please note we do not have card facilities in the Centre. The fee is due at the end of each session and is payable directly to the therapist. If this does not suit alternative arrangements can be made directly with the therapist.  Receipts for payment of fees can be requested from the individual therapist.

Cancelation or change of appointment2019-07-15T10:49:41+00:00

Your appointment is your time and space to speak to your therapist. Therefore, it is important that if you cannot attend you provide sufficient notice of cancellation, as it becomes difficult to schedule another client. A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required in order to cancel a session. If less 48 hours is given, the fee of 20 euro for the cancelled session will be payable. Occasionally, it might be possible to reschedule a session to the day before or after the appointed day (where the client has not been in a position to give one week’s notice). However, this is subject to the availability of appointment times.

How can I get referred?2019-07-07T12:49:03+00:00
